Really important things happen is perfection paralysis, when we are frozen by the idea that what is worth doing must be done perfectly. Deep down, our great difficulty in choosing paths comes from the good feeling that all possibilities are open until we make a decision. So we keep the present pregnant with the future in the hope that by not choosing one, we can have them all. This is true for both professional and personal issues. The most obvious being the choice of a life partner, which many postpone indefinitely in the hope of being able to find in a human being all possible qualities and no defects. But studies show that nothing causes more anxiety than the existence of open possibilities. And despite charging a price, deciding and taking a path ends up generating a feeling of stability and well-being.

Chapter 5: the melon problem. One of the biggest challenges we face in our lives is distraction. Our attention is pulled all the time to things we wouldn't want to focus on. And if we consider that our life is the sum of what we pay attention to, it  Japan Email List is not an exaggeration to say that we pay with our life every time we pay attention to what we don't want to. The difficulty arises from the fact that we physiologically evolved to be aware of everything that happens around us to avoid environmental risks. But we need to learn to voluntarily direct our attention to what we value, so we don't live our whole lives focused on what doesn't matter. Chapter 6: the intimate switch. Most people tend to avoid thinking about what causes physical or emotional pain in the hope that this will lessen the pain, when in fact it is only when we stop trying to block out our sensations and face them head on that the discomfort evaporates.

Distraction is a mechanism we use to escape activities that we find boring. And sometimes to escape the feeling of imperfection and lack of control that comes from trying to accomplish tasks that are truly important to us. In this sense, we have an intimate switch that turns off our attention, which is focused on what we want to do, and directs it to the distractions that the world offers us and which in the age of social media are even more tempting. Chapter 7: we never really have time. Our suffering in the struggle for control over the future is a clear example of our refusal to recognize our limitations in this regard. And while we stay focused on trying to control what will happen in the future, we don't get rid of the anxiety that prevents us from living the only moment that really matters, which is the present.
